Hue rotation applied to a selection of images taken with The Hubble Telescope
The colour balance in astronomical images is usually adjusted to highlight or re-inforce a particular feature or to satisfy aesthetics. In truth colour adjustment is probably more liberal and exaggerated in deep-sky astronomical imaging than most other forms of photography. Java applets to rotate the hues of an image have been around for a long time and I used to have fun applying the effect to colourful fractals. I thought it might be interesting to process some of the more spectacular Hubble images in the same way. Some are more dynamic than others....click on the thumbnails for the active versions. (Initiation of the first image may take a while on slower machines, subsequent ones should be faster).
